Amman, Jordan - A four-month project by MADRAJ has successfully trained and empowered media outlets, initiatives, and journalists from Maan, Al Karak, Al Zarqaa, and Irbid. The program focused on media viability and the importance of adopting new business models that utilize digital tools and entrepreneurial thinking to transform the media landscape. The project kicked off in October 2023 with an open call on MADRAJ's social media platforms. An overwhelming response saw 358 (60% women) applications from individuals across the four governorates. After a the selection process, MADRAJ conducted four training sessions in each governorate to maximize participation. Following the sessions, participants were encouraged to submit project proposals, either refining their initial ideas or developing new ones based on the acquired knowledge. A total of 15 proposals were received, with eight (6 of which were women) selected for further incubation and mentorship. MADRAJ assembled a team of three experts to mentor the chosen media initiatives. The mentorship program focused on strengthening business and media aspects, guiding participants to solidify their ideas, build viable business models, and strategize for target audiences and niche markets. By the program's conclusion, five initiatives presented comprehensive business models aligned with MADRAJ's vision of digitization and media transformation. The projects varied from health factchecking platforms to local tourism channels or creating a production company based on the needs and passion of the participants. The project's success lies in its ability to generate interest and shift mindsets among young media professionals. Participants learned to translate their passion into viable businesses, exploring strategies for starting small and scaling up progressively. As a successful pilot program, MADRAJ is now undertaking a comprehensive review to shape future initiatives. This project was supported by IMS- International Media Support as a pilot to enhance the digitization of local media outlets in Jordan.
